If you have missing or damaged teeth, dental implants are often considered by patients to provide a far superior alternative to traditional treatments such as removable dentures, or a tooth borne bridge.
Tooth implants look and feel very much like natural teeth, allowing individuals to eat and speak with confidence. Implants act like a tooth root – bone grows around the implant making it a firm, secure and long lasting solution.
The function of a dental implant is in essence to replace the function of a natural tooth root. The dental implant can be used to support crowns, bridges and dentures.
Dental implant retained crown and bridgework benefit from being fixed in your mouth and have the ability for individuals to bite with similar forces that they could exhibit with their natural teeth.
Dental implant retained dentures may be used to aid individuals who have difficulty when wearing conventional dentures, increasing the stability of dentures significantly aiding individuals to eat and speak with a greater level of confidence.
Initially a careful planning stage is carried out, this will involve carrying out all necessary investigations to allow us to prepare a detailed report for you. Further investigations may include xrays or a CT scan.
If you are suitable for the placement of a dental implant and choose to proceed with treatment, the next stage will involve the installation of your dental implant(s)
Your dental implant will be placed under local anaesthetic, your jaw will be carefully prepared to take your dental implant(s). Once preparation has occurred the dental implant(s) can be placed.
A period of approximately 3 months will be required after placement of your dental implant(s) to allow for your jaw bone to integrate with your dental implant and increasing long term stability. (We maybe able to offer several temporary solutions to allow you to have teeth in your gap during this period)
After the integration period has occurred, you will return to have impressions for your final crown(s), Bridge(s) or dentures
After your restorations have been placed you will be shown how to look after and maintain your teeth replacements.
The patient was concerned about the tooth missing at the front of his mouth. Although he had tried other options to fill the space, he wanted something that felt more like a natural tooth, so he opted for a tooth implant.
